Event Description: Haywood County Arts Council presents International Festival Day one week earlier this year on Saturday, July 20, 2013 in Downtown Waynesville, North Carolina. The one-day festival features international cuisine, a juried international and regional art show, local and regional entertainment that have previously included Uncle Hamish & the Hooligans, Folkmoot USA, Honey Holler, the Smoky Mountain Stompers, Professor Whizzpop, plus more. Children can visit “Passport to the Arts” Children’s Area for hands on crafts. Main St., Waynesville, NC. FREE. WHO: Haywood County Arts Council WHAT: International Festival Day WHEN: Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 10am-5pm WHERE: Downtown Waynesville, NC. Visit for the complete regional performance schedule. The international festivities also include food courts at each end of Main Street featuring a delicious variety of choices including Greek gyros, Asian spring rolls, French crepes, beignets, Caribbean Shawarmas, Fajitas, and—a North Carolina staple—pulled pork barbeque. The Passport to the Arts children’s area, located in the United Community Bank parking lot, issues “passports” to expedite “travel” for youngsters to countries like Austria, Togo, Ecuador, and Japan where they create crafts unique to the country. Previous crafts include: rain sticks, abstract inkblots, fiesta Headdresses, finger knitting, origami, and more. International Festival Day’s scheduled entertainment takes place at staging areas near the old Courthouse and just beyond Town Hall at opposite ends of Main Street. Performers move along the street and will present impromptu performances throughout the day. International Festival Day is a family event for all ages. Whether you’re an art lover browsing booths of jewelry, paintings, photography, and woodwork; a child traveling the world at Passport to the Arts; or a family out to enjoy international food, dance, and music in the mountains, you will experience one of the finest festivals in the southeast.
